President:
The president is the go-to guy(or girl) for all things GDC. They are responsible for maintaining the cohesion of the club and making sure it continues to flourish every semester. They have a large sway in the direction the club takes and an equally large set of responsibilities.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Acting as primary contact for the club
- Understanding the GDC constitution and SFSS club policies
- Completing and submitting the club package at the start of every semester
- Managing the club mailing list
- Organizing elections
- Managing the executive committee.
- Filling in any gaps in the responsibilities of other executives
- Organizing clubs days
- Promoting the club at SFU and abroad
- Thinking of the future of the club
Suggested Qualities:
- Member of the club for at least two years.
- Willing to put in a large time commitment.
- Able to speak comfortably both in public and through email
- Self motivated
Treasurer:
The treasurer is in charge of dealing with anything to do with money so that the president does not need to worry about it.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Managing incoming and outgoing funds. This includes money collected from club members (rarely), core funding, and grants.
- Completing and submitting grant requests
- Maintaining the SFU Surrey storage locker.
Suggested Qualities:
- Attention to detail
- Ability to make cost estimates
- Communicative
Vice President Burnaby + Vice President Surrey
We have two vice president positions which is part of the agreement made when the club was merged from two separate
Surrey and Burnaby clubs. Having two vp's helps to spread the workload and allows us to provide for both campuses. They are very critical roles that, when performed correctly, are a great asset.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assisting in organizing clubs days for their respective campus. Most importantly, this includes scheduling volunteers.
- Booking the room for weekly meetings
- Booking rooms for events at their respective campus
- Helping to organize events
- Organizing weekly meetings:
- having a discussion moderator
- taking attendance
- taking minutes/notes
- Getting acquainted with club members
- Promoting the club on their campus and abroad
- Doing anything else they can think of to help
Suggested Qualities:
- Self Motivated
- Helpful
- Member of the club for at least 1 year.
Secretary
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the club website and keeping it up-to-date
- Taking or collecting notes during weekly meetings and putting them onto the website
- Updating the constitution upon request
- Assisting with paperwork such as grant requests and the club package
Suggested Qualities:
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Self-directed
