Genre: Point and Click Puzzle/Adventure

game genre with possible significant changes or important points

  • Styled after the classic point and click adventure games, with mouse based navigation

individual gameplay mechanics and mechanics categorized by system

  • The player navigates the game world via pointer control, as per classic point and click games
  • Action is sparse: action sequences and movement are indirectly controlled, but depending on the current personality of the player character will result in different kinds of actions
  • The focus is on managing multiple personalities (and associated disorders) and how to trigger them in different areas of the institution
  • Lifebar = Mental instability:
    • Visual cues = shattering, cracking of the screen
    • Audible cues = whispering, screaming
    • The less 'mental health' the player has, the more intense their current personality and the harder it is to control
  • Personalities:
    • Changes occur via specific triggers
    • Urges by specific personalities become easier or harder to control through certain conditions
    • The perspective of the world changes depending on the player's current personality
    • Different abilities and strengths also belong to different personalities
  • The player can choose which patients to 'cure' and inherit the personas from, but you can only choose so many before reaching the end of the game

narrative elements concerning plot, characters, world

  • Setting:
    • The game takes place in a mental institution (medium security)
    • The player fools self at the beginning of the game about being a doctor at the asylum
  • Player:
    • Famous psychiatrist with mental instability
    • He attempts to help other patients with their mental problems
    • As you assist other patients, however, you gain their mental instabilities as an additional personality, cumulatively
    • You have an imagined, but deceased, family
    • Within the institution, the player can discover and enter fictional realms that personify different patients and their maladies
  • Multiple Endings:
    • Endings will change in accordance to which patients are 'cured' by the player
    • The final goal is to cure yourself of your own mental issues

includes possible target user group traits

  • More appeal to old-school and mature gamers, interested in an intellectual challenge

Possible Technology

includes hardware that would best support the game

  • Wii functionality with the pointer interface would be ideal, and with that regular PC mouse control
