Idea for January 21, 2009


Summary

You play as an elderly man on his death bed trying to discover which of his family members is trying to kill him in order to get his wealth. You gather clues by asking your family members to describe experiences or asking them to go investigate places or people for you. All of the gameplay sections are your family members describing things and you imagining yourself as them. They tell you what they did and you play through those memories. At least one of the characters is lying to you and you need to figure out who.

Theme: Delusional Paranoia

Delusions and insanity: You or everyone else is crazy.
Possibly the whole game being memories.
Playing as different characters reporting back to one character.
Possibly the main character planned it all in advance.
Old man must prove that he isn't delusional in order to keep his power of attorney.

Genre: Mystery

Mechanics/Systems

Send family members off to gather clues as to who is trying to kill you.
Rewatch parts that you played to look for more clues.
Screen shots or some form of extraction to isolate clues.
Play through the point of view of the old man imagining himself in the other characters experiences.
Different personalities create different renditions of the world.
Ask characters questions to proceed the story.
Perhaps overlay memories over the real version of the world.
